Scooty Scheme for Female Students by CM Punjab

After successful distribution of laptops and solar panels among students belonging to public sector institutes, next initiatives is the scooty scheme for female student by CM Punjab. The aim behind this scheme is to solve the transport problem faced  by girls students. It is one of major issues that creates problems for them and their families. It is expected that the distribution would take place by the end of this financial year.

The eligible girls students for scooty scheme for female students by CM Punjab are those belonging to government sector colleges and universities. These scooties would be the one which runs with battery that needs to be recharged in order to save petrol consumption. It is a good initiative to solve transportation problem since our society needs such kind of awareness but in my opinion this money could have been used to make the public transport system better so they can trust public transport and majority of population can use that.

Organizational Structure

Organizational Structure is all about designed tasks, lines of authority, duties and supervision in achieving organizational objectives. Organizational structure is formed by how the organization is designed around these activities and lines of authority so there can be various types of organizational structures according to their needs. There are six major elements of organizational structure or design.

Work Specialization

It means that your labour is specialized in one task and they do that repeatedly and becomes expert of it. So organizations have to decide what type of work force is required to perform the tasks. Work specialization improves the efficiency and eventually employee productivity. But there is also dark side of being work specialized, it creates monotonous and employees get bored of repeating the same task gain and again. In contemporary environment and organizational structure, managers keeping assigning variety of tasks to employees and keep shifting their jobs to overcome the problems.

Departmentalization

Similar sort of activities are group and performed under particular departments. Now it is to be decided that what types of activities organization is involved in, and according to that departments are created. There are various factors on the basis of which organizations may create their departments in their organizational structure. They may create Functional departments like marketing, finance, HR, IT etc. One more type of departmentalization can be based on types of customers, like end consumers, business customers. Further Geography based departmentalization includes creating departments according to different geographic regions the business is operated. Then there is also product departmentalization based on various product lines. Process departmentalization is based on different processes of business for instance in textile sector ginning, weaving, dying, printing etc.

Chain of Command

Chain of command describes the line of authority in the organization and answers the question that who reports to whom? This element of organizational structure define lines of authority and represents that how much authority is delegated down the line. Upper management empowers employees so they can take decisions. It helps employees identifying that whom they are answerable and from where orders would come.

Span of Control

Span of control defines that how many employees are working under one manager. It also identifies the levels of management in organizational structure. Based on the number of employees under one managers, span of control can be termed as narrow or wider. In narrow span of control manager has less number of employees to supervise. It brings closer supervision but increases the cost since company has to hire number of managers with high salaries. Whereas in wider span of control, there are large number of employees under one manager, in this case efficiency is improved and cost is reduced. Wider span of control is best suitable im situation when managers are experienced and skilled, workers are skilled too and organization is not geographically dispersed.

Centralization/Decentralization

These elements of organizational design decides on how much decision making authority is to be delegated down the line into the hierarchy. Centralization refers to that decision making is done at the higher levels of organization. In such organizational structure, top management considers it wiser to be decision maker rather authorizing employees to do this. Decentralization is opposite of it as it allows giving authority to the employees to make decisions in different scenarios. This helps workers be more efficient and respond to queries and problems immediately.

Formalization

Formalization refers to the extent of rules and regulations being implemented in an organization. Nowadays organizational structures tend to be less formalized with less rules and regulations and more flexible towards employee's timings, policies of working hours, dress codes, attendances and holidays.

Simple steps for Linear Regression Analysis in SPSS

Today i am going to describe you simple steps for Regression Analysis in SPSS. Regression analysis is a statistical test used in finding out the relation between dependent and independent variables for quantitative research. So this test is best suited in a situation when you have a theoretical or conceptual model containing either single  or multiple independent and dependent variables. SPSS is a software that help conducting regression analysis effectively. Following are the steps involved in conducting regression analysis:

  • Firstly you need data, which you must have gathered prior conducting analysis.
  • You create variables with reference to that data, for instance you want to know the relationship between income and price of mobile consumers purchase. So here, the dependent variable would be price and independent variable is income.
  • Then you have to click Analyze appearing in your menu bar, then go to Regression and then Linear. Sequence is Analyze > Regression > Linear
  • A dialog box would appear where you would be able to your variables, you need to shift your dependent variable into Dependent (s) text box and independent variable into Independent (s) text box. It can be done by either dragging the variables of using arrow button beside each text box.
  • If you need to check your data for various assumptions, you have tabs of statistics and options where you can get your data checked for various assumption through plots and tests. Click Continue button.
  • In the end you need to click "OK" tab to get the result in output window.

Teaching Methods in Class

Teaching methods in class have also evolved with fast changing trends in syllabus and use of technology. Students needs to get engaged in lecture during class so they can learn to the maximum. We all are well aware of the fact that majority students have least interest in studies so they loose interest in lecture and you may even find them half sleepy during lecture. These are common issues faced by every teacher. But when there is a problem, a solution needs to be there. Certainly  solution to student's dis-interest is also hidden in variety of teaching methods in class.  Here, i would be sharing certain teaching methods in class which can help keeping students involved in lecture.

Interactive Lecture

Make it an interactive lecture in the class by asking certain questions, invite student's comments and their perceptions on the topic under discussion.

Loud Voice

Loud Voice is essential in keeping control and hold on students, further it also helps keeping them awake and grabbing their attention towards you. But be careful it should not be shrill or annoying for students.

Group Discussion

One of very effective method of student's learning and involvement is group discussion on a certain topic or case study or research paper which not only keeps students involved and busy but also make them using their mental skills. It is really a healthy activity.

Creative Tasks

Give students certain creative tasks and assignments during lecture. For instance, you may ask them for role playing or creating collage regarding particular concept. You can even prepare certain scrabble and flash card games for them which they would participate in with interest.

Talk about Facts and Examples

Share facts with the students, give them real life examples which goes on around them on daily basis. Particularly boys listen to such facts and examples with great interest. but keep you example relevant to you topic so they are able to learn the topic through those facts and examples.

Going Green Matters !!

Green marketing is about positive impact of business activities on society and environment. Prosperous society and healthy environment both are important for an individual that is why going green matters. Organizations neglecting their social responsibility and environmental protection have to bear consequences of criticism and penalties. Depleting natural resources, increased pollution and increased social needs have made companies to go green and save environment and society. The major two aspects of greening are discussed below.

Social Responsibility

It emphasizes the responsibility of organization towards the society. We all are part of our society and we see a lot of social problems around us which can range from illiteracy to poverty and violations of right to health disabilities. When organizations are involved in solving any of such problems, then they are contributing to the betterment of the society. It not only makes the world better around them but also  helps creating positive image in the eyes of consumers. Consumers respond positively to organizations taking such actions and it can be a source of competitive advantage. So i would say that its a win-win situation for both organization and society and it also suggests that Going Green Matters !!

Environmental Protection

Here environment includes all those factors that exist naturally. Those are the natural resources that we use in making many of our daily life activities happen. For instance, we use air to breath, we use water for drinking and cooking, we use oil, gas and coal in cooking, production and various activities. These are the natural resources which are gifted to us by God. But these resources are depleting at fast pace due to various human activities. Like extensive use of oil, gas and coal in manufacturing and households is decreasing the levels of reserves and carbon. Moreover, the waste released as a result of manufacturing and transport vehicle is polluting fresh air and water, which is poses a potential threat from minor to harmful diseases. So after knowing such hazardous effects, we must recognize that Going Green Matters. Organizations responding to environmental concerns play their part in going green and saving the earth. They may offer recyclable products to reduce waste, sustainable products to substitute oil, coal and natural gas and proper mechanisms to deal with waste.

So organizations in current era need to respond to issues mentioned above in order to protect the earth and have healthy and prosperous lives. They being resourceful and having impact can do a lot for the world they live in. Because Going Green Matters!!

Levels of Product

Product is anything we buy from market to satisfy our needs and wants or we can say all the offerings of companies are called products. Thees may be tangible goods or intangible services or marketable offerings. but what is meant by Level of Products? Why are these levels created? I would answer these questions in my post here.

Levels of product suggest that we can view a product as three products on the basis of the intangible benefits it may offer, tangible or actual product and intangible part of product. I will be explaining it here one by one.

Core Product

Core product talks about the intangible benefits offered by products. These benefits are valuable to the consumers because they are not only buying the physical product but also the benefits they can avail from that product. For instance, while buying a motorbike, you want speed to for quick movement from one place to other. Speed is the core benefit here.

Actual Product

Then comes the actual product which comprises of feature, brand name, packaging, labeling of the physical product. In short it that level of product which you receive as tangible product. It means you can feel and touch this actual product.

Augmented Product

These are intangible additional services associated with the product in order to add more value for consumer. It may help creating difference from those of competitors products. Such as free maintenance services offered by auto manufacturers or warranty issued by mobile companies against the purchase of their brands. These additional services can be turned into benefits for consumers to fulfill their needs better.

HEC Ranking of Universities 2013

HEC Ranking of Universities 2013 has been announced, the evaluation criteria was based on Quality and Research. The ranking has been announced in following categories for countrywide universities. I would be mentioning top three universities in the ranking while rest can found on official HEC page.

In this category, HEC has further divided the universities based on their small, medium and large size according to number of students enrolled. NUST (Islamabad) has secured top position among large size universities. While University of the Punjab (Lahore) ranked 2nd and University of Karachi (Karachi) as 3rd. None the less, COMSATS (Islamabad) has gained 4th position in the HEC Ranking of Universities 2013.
In medium sized universities, Quaid-e-Azam University (Islamabad) is ranked 1st, followed by Government College University (Lahore) at 2nd place and National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences (NUCES) Islamabad at 3rd.
In small sized university, the 1st place is secured by University of Faisalabad (Faisalabad). while 2nd and 3rd place is secured by Beaconhouse National University (Lahore) and Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (Islamabad).

Business Education

The most popular category of universities and ranking is once again rightly deserved, the competetion between LUMS and IBA (Karachi) is won by Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) Lahore and ranked as top university among all business schools. Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi secured second place while 3rd ranked one is Sukkur Institute of Business Administration (Sukkur).

Medical

Among medical institutions, Agha Khan University (Karachi) again secured first place in HEC Ranking of Universities 2013. While University of Health Sciences (Lahore) and DOW University of Health Sciences (Karachi) secured 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

University of agriculture (Faisalabad) ranked 1st and 2nd and 3rd places are secured by Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture - University Rawalpindi and University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (Lahore).

These rankings seem to be quite justified, top positions are secured by the universities rightly deserved. This ranking would help universities in improving their performances while students would get help while making their choice of university for admission.

Punjab Youth Internship Program (PYIP)

Punjab Youth Internship Program is one of the special efforts made for development of youth which aims to provide 50,000 internships to students in Government departments. Launched by Govt. of Punjab, I personally believe it to be a good initiative because i have seen people struggling not only for job but for internship as well. Our industries and business sector is limited, offering limited seats for internees. Punjab Youth Internship Program (PYIP) would not only facilitate students of HEC recognized  institutes but also encourage them to begin with their professional career where they would get to develop, enhance and learn the skills in order to practically enter in the professional world as an employee.

Eligibility

Students who have completed their 16 years of education from HEC recognized public/private university, are eligible for applying for internship under Punjab Youth Internship Program (PYIP). The duration of internship program would be 3 months in total and monthly stipend of Rs. 10,000 would be given to the students. I am glad about this fact of stipend, which is a good amount to at least bear monthly travelling and few other minor expenses.Because in private sector, students not get to receive stipend at all. It would keep the interns motivated.

Students would be given certificates at the end of their internships under Punjab Youth Internship Program (PYIP) and their performance would be evaluated closely by the respective organizations/departments they are working in. It has been declared clearly that i would not lead to further job in the same organization. Its only an internship, so students should not build hopes of getting associated to the organization as an employee on the bases of their internship performance. To get job in Govt. dep./org., the formal procedure is followed.

Overall i rate this program very good because it is really a productive opportunity for students who need such initiative badly after completing their studies. It would boost their energies and can play vital role in brightening their future.

Application:

Students can apply through rozee.pk. Online application is encouraged to make the procedure quick and prompt. For official webpage of Punjab Youth Internship Program (PYIP) click here.

How to Motivate Employees?

One of the biggest concerns of organizations is to keep their employees motivated for their better performance that would ultimately effect organization's performance. Motivation levels are never constant for everyone, one person being motivated in working a team but other may feel uncomfortable in that situation. So it depends on behaviours, situation and other multiple factors which may be intrinsic or extrinsic. In order to deal with such situation we first need to know what motivation actually is? As Stephen Robbins defines it as a process through which efforts of individuals are energized, directed and sustained over a period of time. It means that the efforts employees put in to do their tasks must be enough to do it most effectively and efficiently.

In or to keep their efforts in right direction employees can make them comfortable by provinding them certain benefits or incentives which they consider valuable. Here i would describe certain ways managers can motivate their employees but obviously situations have significant impact in selecting any of these:

  • At the very basic level, certain monetary rewards and incentives along with additional perks for the individual and his/her family are one of the motivators for employees

  • Experienced and skilled employees should be given enough freedom to utilize their abilities and knowledge in order to perform their tasks

  • Stay connected to employees at individual level, have their feedback on tasks and job, they feel good and privileged this way.

  • Have their suggestions in decision making, it would encourage them to bring up new ideas and make them feel good that they have their say

  • They should be developed regularly, identify the skills they are interested in and want to develop and provide them training accordingly

  • Offer your key employees time benefits like compressed work weeks, flextimes or work at home etc.

  • Recognize them, their efforts and reward their performances even appreciate them publicly if they have really helped your company grow and creating company's offerings

  • Provide trusting and open culture so they may be able to share and act real

These are certain general and very important ways employees can be motivated. By adopting a few of these or even two or three may help you increasing motivation level.

Marketing Communication

Marketers are always interested in communicating their offerings to their consumers. Marketing Communication serve this purpose well. The main purpose behind communication is to promote organization  its products or services and ideas. They use various promotional tools for this purpose including advertising, sales promotion, public relations, direct marketing and personal selling. These can be used in different ways and are also called traditional marketing tools. With the advent of new technology and availability of other digital media options, the tools for communication have also evolved. For instance, television media was the one widely used for advertising but now internet have emerged as another successful media which can be used for advertisement. Here i would briefly discuss each of the tools mentioned above:

Advertising: It is paid form of non personal communication where message may delivered by using broadcast, print or digital media. Companies want to inform, persuade and remind consumers of their offerings. We find numerous advertisements on television, hear multiple ads on radio, view several in newspapers, magazines, journals and find them embedded in various webpages, games and applications we use. These all are types of different advertisements. Advertisements are usually costly but reach masses. Current issue with this tool is clutter created by all companies. This can be avoided by creating innovative message that break the clutter and stand out.

Public Relations: It is all about maintaining good relationships with various public of the company which includes its customers, suppliers, dealers, government agencies, community people, creditors and shareholders. To keep in touch with this public, company may rely on press releases, corporate identity materiel, financial or some written reports by the company, websites, blogs, social communities, buzz marketing and special events etc. These marketing communication tools are less costly and help creating awareness better than advertising.

Personal Selling: Its is done through company representative who present company's offerings to prospective customers. These representatives are known as salesperson who influence and convince customers to buy product or service. They should be presentable, well equipped with communication skills and active listening. This form of marketing communication can help generating greater sales and attracting new customers. It may be more costly but can be effective.

Sales Promotion: Sales promotions are the incentives provided to consumers for short term. These incentives attract customers towards company's products or services. Companies use various types of promotional tactics such as free sampling, coupons, premiums, cash rebates, contests, specialty advertising, product packs and contests etc. These communication tools may not be expensive but can provide company with distinctive edge over its competitors.

Direct Marketing: It is direct form of marketing in which organizations directly contact with the target audience with their specific needs matching the company's offerings. It may be done using email, post mail, kiosks, telephone calls etc. This marketing communication is based on narrow casting approach in which only those consumers are contacted who comes in the target market of the company. One more benefit of this tool is that it help building closer customer relationship as they feel privileged and special.
