University College of Engineering, Science and Technology is a project of Lahore Leads university which is chartered by Pakistan provincial assembly and programs are approved by Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC). It has also opened its fall 2013 admissions for various undergraduate programs and these are opened till 6th of July, 2013. Entry Test is scheduled on 7th July, 2013. Qarshi University is a chartered university and recognized by HEC. It has announced its registration as opened for fall 2013. Besides its regular degree programs in discipline of business management, economics, commerce, accountancy and computer science it offers Masters degree in hospital management, diploma in patient relationship and BEMS (Bachelors in Eastern Medicine & Surgery) a five year degree program. COMSATS-Lancaster Dual Degree Program (DDP)

Dual Degree Programs have world-wide recognition though not offered in all countries, but some renown North American and British Universities are offering Double/Dual Degree programs. COMSATS University in Pakistan is a prestigious university and is affiliated with Government of Pakistan. Admission Schedule

Admissions at COMSATS open twice a year, once for fall semester in June-July and the other for spring semester in November-December. So currently admissions are open at COMSATS for Dual Degree Program which would be closing on 15th July, 2013. Further, there is requirement to clear aptitude test by NTS (NAT). Associate Degree Program (ADP) at Punjab Group of Colleges

Punjab Group of Colleges has earned its repute and name over the years with its best services among the private sector. What is GMAT

GMAT stands for Graduate Management Admission Test it is administrated under Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC). GMAT is required to most of the international MBA programs including America, Canada and European countries. But now in Pakistan also, GMAT is becoming one of the basic requirements of admission in top MBA programs in institutes like LUMS, IBA, and LSE etc. Although these institutes conduct their own admission tests but those tests are also based on GMAT format (which I’ll describe later) but they do accept GMAT score as well. (GMAT is not a pass/fail test; it gives the result in form of score)

GMAT is now named as GMAT CAT, CAT stands for Computer Adaptive Test. This change of name occurs simply because GMAT is now conducted with the help of computers :).

Now let’s come to the format of GMAT which is consists of three parts

1. Analytical Writing Assessment – two 30 minutes essay writing, one analysis of an argument and one analysis of an issue
2. Quantitative Ability – 75 minutes session of multiple questions of problem solving and dada sufficiency
3. Verbal Ability – 75 minute session of multiple questions of Critical reasoning, Sentence Correction and Reading Comprehension

GMAT announces result of these three sections separately but score of quantitative and verbal abilities are also announced together. Maximum score of GMAT is 800 and most institutes in Pakistan accept above 550 or 600 but that is not a hard and fast rule

• International test fee is $250
• Additional fee for Test score reporting $28
• National Passport is essential for GMAT.

Advice:

Most students in Pakistan (including me) rely on different academies for GMAT preparation but I learned that attending academies is just a waste of time and money as well. So if you are looking forward to give GMAT or any other local GMAT format test then my advice is that, buy a GMAT book and start practicing it right now!

Problems faced after A-levels

Here I am going to tell you some facts, for the students who want to study in Pakistan after their A-level and want to get admission at some very competitive colleges and universities, like government medical colleges or engineering universities in Pakistan. I figured it out through the experience of some of my friends and people around, who had suffered with some problems while getting admission after their A-levels in Pakistan.

In Pakistan they do not accept the grades obtained in O and A level, they covert the grades obtained by the students into equivalent of matric or FSc respectively. The conversion of the grades is done in such a manner that it reduces the marks of students very low. This harms students a lot when they come down in the ranking while making merit at college or university. To get As’ in O or A-level is not an easy job. It takes a lot of hard work, time, energy, sacrifices and money. and when all this is resulted into low marks, it is really unfair, but students cannot do or say anything as it’s the rule.

I do not know the exact formula of conversion, but as far as I know I can share here, while converting the grades of o-level, 5 subjects are taken into consideration, if all are As’ means you have 5 As’ then your grades will earn 723 marks for those. and in conversion of A-levels 3 subjects are taken, and they can earn maximum of 935 marks against you 3 As’ and 5 As’ of O-level. See now, competition is getting higher and higher every year, consequently, marks and merit. To compete with these marks becomes very tough.

Above mentioned was one very major problem, there is another one, after A-levels, for the preparation of entry tests of medical colleges or engineering universities they have to study all the FSc syllabus. They have to prepare and learn the books in 2 months. Because entry test are designed out of these books. But now I heard from a friend of mine that there is gonna be a separate test for A-Level students.

These are the problems what O and A-level students have to face. So keeping all the facts in consideration, the students who want to study in Pakistan, they should not at least do A-levels. See, person with A-level and other with FSc, at the end both are at the same level at the same place, when they are at any university or college together. At that point there, it doesn’t matter how much hard work or money have you put in, both are found at the same level and both are equal.

Hot topic in the air, matriculation result has been announced and students are now looking forward to get admission in colleges. The excitements as well urge to get enrolled in one of the best colleges in city are at peak. The city like Lahore, have many renowned options and chances for students. I’ll be mentioning here some top options available at this time for boys and girls. So best of luck!!

Kinnaird College (KC): KC is the charm for every girl. It’s the best college to be there in Lahore in almost all perspectives. Responsible and well organized studies are the trait of KC. But merit for the KC is too high, not fulfilling the wish of everyone and leaving so many candidates disappointed. KC brings out the best, and at the end results are the proof of that. Top position holders belong to KC. No notice for the admissions for intermeidiate has been announced yet. But admission would be opened soon, keep waiting and checking.

Lahore College Women University (LCWU): LC is ranked after KC, so this makes is the 2nd best option for the girls to be there. Merit is high but not as much as KC’s. At intermediate level, students can get themselves enrolled in choosing different subjects ranging from Sciences to arts, and Commerce to IT. Studies at intermediate level also very competent in Lahore College. Results are good for LC as well, some prominent positions in board. Government College of Home-economics: It is also ranked equal to Kinnaird College. But the difference is that it is for those girls who are not interested in sciences. It’s all about everything, from sewing to cooking, music to child care and painting to arts. What a variety, you can never get board. You get command on household chores as well as other sciences of arts, music, creativity and all that. Merit is high as well but not as much as at KC. Girls it’s a real opportunity, fun with studies. They provide 4 years bachelors degree recognized as BSc, immediately after matriculation. Id get admission at home-economics College, you will be having fun of your life. But besides, it is also tough, the assignments, projects, to complete them if not perfect then rejection, you have to face all these realities as well. Hostel facility is also available. Forman Christian College University (FCU): Well FC is not far behind the GCU, 2nd best college for boys after GCU. Islamia College Civil lines Lahore: This college has a glorious history; it was established by Anjuman-i-Himayat-i-Islam in 1892. But it is no longer regarded among the elite colleges of Pakistan. It had tremendous repute and quality education but after its nationalization by Z. A. Bhutto in the 1970s that saw their gradual descent in all aspects. After GC University and FCC University, it is regarded as third best college as far as the merit of F.Sc and F.A is concerned. Students of this college are referred to as "Habibians" after the name of the college's oldest and central building.

University Of Management And Technology - UMT Lahore

Ever since ILM renamed as UMT they are progressing, and progressing well. A purpose build campus is under construction and some part is already completed and functional. I am not sure about their actual position but they are good at one thing, that is they are really satisfying their students. Students of UMT are in confidence as they are studying in some institute with LUMS or LSE caliber. And having satisfied customers is a great asset for any organization and for an educational institute students are the customers.

Claiming a non profit organization still they are charging comparatively more fees. For a 4 year BBA you have to pay more then 600K and for 2 year MBA fee is 475K. So its kind of joke that they still cliam to be non profit organization after charging this much fee. And I wonder that why should a student pay this much havey amount for an institute like UMT because no doubt they are progressing well but when you compare to outcome of their degree fee is much high.

As far as my opinion is concerned I am totally not impressed with UMT, because when I talked about UMT with some professionals of MCB Bank the response was not quit satisfactory, some of them was not of good opinion about UMT and other not even know nothing about UMT but remember ILM.

One more thing is that an educational institute is supposed to be a very neat and clean place but as far as UMT is concerned its campus is not well managed and you feel suffocation over there. Although building is still under construction but one must not compromise on cleanness. So they should give some attention on their atmosphere.

Now lets have a quick review of different aspects of University of Management and Technology.

HISTORY: Back in 1990 Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) was established in Lahore. ILM grow gradually and by 2004 they applied for university charter which was granted. So ILM become University Of Management and Technology (UMT) .

BASIC INFORMATION: With their Vision of LEARNING and Mission of LEADING UMT is claim to producing future leaders and decision makers but I wonder that how come an institute with 200 BBA's can compete with an institute which is concentrating only on 35 or 40 BBA's. So they have to reduce their number of seats for every program and strict their admission criteria. UMT pick students from 40 to 45% and put them into market by grooming them to may be 60 to 70%. so how a 70% student can lead future.

One plus point for UMT is that management is very friendly with students and help them in every aspect of their life which gain students' loyalty.

STUDENT TALK: Talking with some of UMT students was very interesting for me because no doubt they were so much confident about their institute I find them comparing UMT with LSE and on some times with LUMS even. Admission Criteria for FAST-NU -- A Joke!!!

Every university has specific criteria which is kind of standard for admission and that is entry test and interview. We all have knowledge about it to some extent. But today let me aware you of something really weird and unexpected and you will be surprised to know that it’s about FAST-NU, the university every student look forward and wish for. In concept of fast the interview has its own meanings. If this weird interview what they think is the right parameter for evaluation than all other universities and people are surely dumb.

Admission criteria for MBA, first entry test and than an interview, it sounds quite normal. But after experiencing this at FAST-NU by some students, they say entry test and than one more entry test to check you cramming skill. And it sounds quite pathetic. Don’t we all have the concept of interview?? I guess we have. But now add one more meaning of interview which FAST people have in their dictionary. It’s a public service message for the students, who want their MBA done from FAST-NU, just cram your books well, and you are at FAST.

Now I’ll tell you what actually happened to the student who passed the entry test and got selected for the interview for admission in MBA. But first refresh your true meaning of interview that what an interview is to you?? Well, according to me it is to check your personality traits, communication skills, general knowledge and the way you can promptly discuss on any topic. And I think that I have a reasonable concept. But at FAST-NU when students were asked questions from books regarding different subjects, they were dumbfounded. They have never expected such a foolish interview. They were like, what the hell was entry test for??? And I guess it’s quite fair reaction because they were not prepared for another entry test, much tougher than written. Because in written one you think, make some guesses and luck works. Once students have cleared the test, they are eligible; they have learnt something from their studies and have ability. An interview is to check those factors which are you unable to check through entry test.

Well, pity on those who have gone through this mishap or what we call in our frequent language “HAND”. And a request for FAST-NU people, do aware the students that they should come prepared for test of their cramming skills.

Some big names or great things can also have flaws, because they are worldly and nothing in the world is perfect. So never run blindly after those things, you should be aware of every aspect. People have made big names, but still have not got reasonable way to carry it on.

Best ACCA in Lahore

ACCA is the most popular certification of accountancy all over the world specially in Pakistan. Association Of Chartered Certified Accountants abbreviated as ACCA allover the world is a famous but difficult certification to get. In this article I'm going to give a review of ACCA in Lahore. There are so many institutes offering tuition for ACCA classes including PAC, CAP, SKANS,NCBA&E etc. Well I'm going to evaluate these institutes on basis of there campuses, faculty, standard of coaching and fees as well. For a very long period of time SKANS lead them for its high standards of education and outstanding and committed faculty members but now they are losing there reputation as they more concerned about making profit instead of quality education. On the other hand institutes like CFE and PAC and CAPS is really concentrating on there level of education and really gaining reputation. Lets have a quick review of these institutes.

SKANS remain on the top for like a long period of time due to its highly professional faculty and their commitment for high class education. It was like Son: “Dad I want to do ACCA” Dad: “Ok I’ll bring SKANS prospectus for you”. But now they don’t maintained their top position because they are more concerned now about making profits and less to provide quality education. One more thing affecting their repute is that most of their teachers are leaving them and they are doing nothing to intact them also SKANS fee is higher then other institutes offering ACCA. SKANS has got a big and impressive building on very prime location of Lahore just opposite the PU hostels. However admissions are open and classes will start from 27^th July.

CFE is becoming first choice for students for ACCA as they are focusing on their education standards and giving very friendly environment to their students. Fees are comparatively less. Campus is also not bad and also on main location of Lahore. One reason for CFE to becoming popular is that there is less glamour in there campus and more education. So for me I must rate CFE above the SKANS.

College of Accountancy and Professional Studies (CAPS) if offering ACCA for a long period of time and know ranked above SKANS and CFE among students. When I said students it means students how want to study and only study but those who are more concerned with other activities obviously go for SKANS. They share same road with SKANS but size of building is much smaller then SKANS but quality of education in there is much more then SKANS. Hurry Up admissions are open these days !

PAC – The Professionals’ Academy Of Commerce for me is now the best college offering ACCA because of there unique teaching methods and strict check on students in the shape of Quizzes, monthly tests, class presentations, assignments and attendance reports on monthly basis. PAC have its purpose build campus near Jail Road with nice qualities. There fees are also less and can be discounted if negotiated properly. So for me PAC is best choice at the moment.

Few days ago a teacher of mine told me about Rise Institute. He said that Rise is the best place to do ACCA as its run by that man who make SKANS, SKANS. But as I don’t have much information about this institute so I can’t recommend this.

Kinnaird College For Women Lahore

Who would not be familiar with the name of Kinnaird College? It has got its impact since its inception. Top rated Girls College where every girl wishes to get admission. Some decades back LC and KC used to be rated as equal, infact LC had higher merit than KC, but with the passage of time and after being privatized it has got more status and merit much higher than that of LC. Now it has become a “status symbol” for people. With such a repute and remarkable standing it is not easy to get admission in KC and wish of so many remain unfulfilled, usually opting for sciences, and sadly I am one of them. There are different large blocks, architecture is awesome and there is a lot of greenery. Facilities are more for BCS and Masters Students. One more complaint was of less no. of labs. Cafe is quite large having variety, but food is not so hygienic and very expensive. Some teachers are good some are average or even below like every institute. Level and quality of education is very high, systematic and organized. There is strictness in college. Well I guess students at KC are quite satisfied with studies there, which is remarkable.

FACILITIES:

Having the repute of Premier College, KC is facilitating its students. Computer Labs, library and laboratories are there to facilitate students in their studies. Besides, grounds, sports equipments, auditoriums for games and different events to bring out talent of students. A large number of classrooms, different blocks, cafeteria and transport facility all over the city, to make the students more comfortable and productive. Hostel facility is also provided to the over board students.

MARKET WORTH:

Kinnaird College has got its worth and place in market at every level. Students who do their inter get admissions in medical colleges and premiere universities and after that in professional institutes. Similarly graduates and masters of KC also get their place in market.

Institute of Management Sciences Lahore - Pak-Aims

In 80s Pak-Aims was an institute in which students like to enroll themselves for MBA program. Their standards of MBA were too high and very much well directed but with the passage of time and LUMS’s step into the business of education makes things little bit tough for Pak-Aims. LUMS by hiring Pak-Aims faculty started their progress steadily and gaining the attention gradually. On the other hand Pak-aims did nothing to retain its teachers and so they start losing their popularity as LUMS get over them.

Well apart from this little history of Pak-Aims down falling they still have repute for being an old player in the game. If you ask me about Pak-Aims I’ll not suggest it as a good place to be if you can get admission in some other institutes like LUMS, LSE, IBA-Karachi, FAST, GCU and welcome our new entrant FCU. But again one can prefer Pak-Aims if one have some financial limitations as they offer cheapest MBA in private sector in about 238000. Pak-Aims has the potential to compete with the education market in Pakistan but I don’t know why they are not utilizing most of their potential. I mean they don’t have a campus which tells that this institute is more then 25 years old.

Lets have a quick review of different categories of Pak-Aims which is now Institute of Management Sciences.

HISTORY: The Institute of Management Sciences is a project of Al-Karim Educational Foundation which is a non profit organization with an aim of providing higher education in Pakistan. IMS was started under the name of The Pak-American institute of Management Sciences in 1986. Pak-Aims at that time was offering undergraduate and graduate programs in Management and Computer sciences. Pak-Aims was chartered in 1995 under government of Punjab in 2002.

BASIC INFORMATION: Institute of Management sciences have two campuses one in Center Point and other one is near MM Alam road. With experience on hand and determination to grow, they are providing Business, Computer and Las education for past 25 years. They have enjoyed leadership in MBA before the entrance of LUMS and now challenged by LSE, FAST and to some extend IBA-Lahore.

STUDENT TALK: While talking to an old Pak-Aimian I get to know a lot about IMS. He told me that back at IMS administration was too strict not only for students but they keep an eye on teachers too. Class rooms are in good condition but not too spacious, air conditioned. He wasn’t happy with the cafeteria and library of IMS. Overall he was more concerned with the strictness of administration then study standards.

FACILITIES: Pak-Aims is not ranked as a well established institute which provide a lot of facilities to students I mean their class rooms are although neat but not too large, library is very small, cafeteria is also not provide variety and computer lab have small number of computers. There is a table tennis in the name of sports and that’s all.

MARKET WORTH: In market Pak-Aims has a name. Organizations know Pak-Aims and in many organizations there are high ranked managers who passed out from Pak-Aims so job positioning is good. They also place their students in different companies so the job market is good for pak-aims.
